On Monday begins the next chapter in The Bachelorette saga, the very first featuring a Black woman. Rachel Lindsay, the 31-year-old attorney from Texas, is choosing among the most diverse group of people in the history of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchises. This is something that Lindsay wanted when she talked about her upcoming season earlier this year.

"I’m hoping that as a black Bachelorette you’re going to get to see a more diverse cast, a cast that’s reflective of what America looks like," she said in March. "And not just Bachelor Nation or whatever else, but what America looks like."
She got her wish, as 11 of the 31 men are Black. But considering that Lindsay said that she wasn't going to succumb to the pressure put on her to choose a Black suitor, we'll just have to see what happens when Season 13 of the show premieres on ABC on Monday, May 22.
