Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has never spoken much about her personal life in public. Even when she tied the knot to soon-to-be-ex-husband Wissam Al Mana in 2013, details were scarce about the intimate affair. And when she gave birth to their son Eissa Al Mana in January, a statement from her rep was all we got from Janet about her entry into motherhood after she let fans know she had to cancel her tour to focus on planning a family. It’s for those reasons it seemed surprising Ms. Jackson rushed to confirm that she was indeed getting divorced from her billionaire husband a couple of months ago. And now rumor has it she will be telling a lot more in a new Netflix series about motherhood and life after divorce.

“The show will run as a ten-part documentary and will feature recording sessions in the studio, co-parenting her child with Wissam and preparing for the European and Asian legs of her tour,” a source told The Sun. “Netflix [is] negotiating a big sum for the rights to the show as they expect it to perform well.”

There’s no doubt the series would perform well, the question is will Janet really do it? And is it a good idea? The source reportedly told the Sun:

“Janet has been fiercely private about her life in the past but feels the need to keep her fans in the loop with what life has been like since she went into hiatus ten years ago.”

On one hand, that makes sense. Some Janet fans are still pretty upset about the singer suddenly cancelling her highly anticipated tour — as if she didn’t know she was planning to start a family. An up close and personal look into her tour preparation and personal life could put her back in fans’ good graces, and likely boost ticket sales. On the other hand, with a new baby and a divorce that has yet to be finalized, Janet could find herself possibly exposing too much too soon about the ups and downs of her marriage and motherhood. It might already be a wrap on her marriage, but I doubt cameras will do much to aid Janet and Wissam in co-parenting.

So far, Janet’s rep hasn’t commented on the story so we’re anxiously awaiting the final word on this news. If the Netflix series happens, will you watch?
