Ava DuVernay On Going From Short Bobs And Long Weaves To Locs

Despite staying behind the camera and behind the scenes for most of her career in media and entertainment (aside from being a director, she's also been a journalist and the head of a successful PR agency), Ava DuVernay is a stunner who shines in front of the camera as well. And while we've always fangirled over her hair, DuVernay recently celebrated her own locs in a post on Instagram where she talked about her hair journey: https://www.instagram.com/p/BVH9wBLFAFB/?taken-by=directher But, of course, this isn't the first time DuVernay has spoken about her hair. She told Essence in 2016 that the secret to maintaining her locs is knowing when to let them be. "I don’t have a real regimen," she said. "I use all natural things, and I don’t over groom them. Everyone’s always twisting and twisting and twisting. When you see me out, yes it’s done but when I’m on set, I let it be free. The more you let it be free the stronger it is when you want to twist it’s ready to lock. You gotta let it do what it’s going to do."
