It’s been 15 years since TLC’s last album, 3D, but the wait is finally over. With their self-titled final album, T-Boz and Chilli say goodbye to the best-selling American girl group they started nearly two decades ago.
Before Friday’s anticipated release, the ladies dropped two singles (“Haters” and “Way Back” featuring Snoop Dogg). The entire project, which includes tracks, features songs like “Perfect Girls,” “Start a Fire,” and the no holds barred “Aye Muthafucka.”
TLC also marks the group’s first-ever musical effort without Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who tragically died in 2002. The album notably features only an interlude with the late artist. “The family, they held onto the other stuff,” T-Boz told Billboard. “I guess maybe they wanted money or something. I don’t think she’d be happy that people are trying to hold her vocals hostage.”
While this album is the end of the road for TLC, it’s one that’s rooted in love and appreciation for their life-long fans. As many know, it was funded from a 2015 Kickstarter campaign, which helped them raise over $430,000. In return, fans were gifted the album and memorabilia like a TLC digital scrapbook, autographed lyrics, a photo shoot, and listening party.
