Is it ever really possible for a couple to have an “amicable” split if both parties didn’t come to the understanding that their marriage needed to end? While people wanted us to believe the breakup of actor Jesse Williams and estranged wife Aryn Drake-Lee would be peaceful, at this point, that’s not happening — especially when it comes to their two kids and sharing parenting duties.
In June, Williams filed papers stating that Drake-Lee was keeping him from spending time with Sadie, 3, and Maceo, 2.
“Aryn restricts my time with the children and decides when, and for how long I may have them,” he said last month. “She has rejected, without any reason, each and every request I have made to have the children sleepover at my residence. On the few days that I have the children, Aryn has insisted that my time with the children be limited during the week to approximately two-and-a-half hours per day, despite my requests for more time, including overnights with the children.”
In response, Drake-Lee’s lawyer said that she was trying to protect the well-being and privacy of their kids, so she refused to respond to his “public allegations.”
Maybe that encouraged Williams, 35, to try and see if things could be handled privately. But according to TMZ, despite making attempts to improve their situation, things have not gotten better. Therefore, he wants a formal custody agreement put in place.
While the number of days he’s been able to spend with the kids has increased, he’s still only allowed to see Sadie and Maceo about three hours a day. And even though he has gone ahead and rented a home just three miles away from his estranged wife so that there would be less barriers in his ability to be with them, Drake-Lee still won’t allow sleepovers. He wants that to change, and went as far as to try and prove his bond with his kids by stating their favorite foods and nicknames in the legal papers. That includes mac and cheese for “Sadie Munchkin” and allegedly “anything we put in front of Mace” works for the 2-year-old.
And while he may not get more time with his kids right now, he’s enjoying time with his family and somebody else’s kid. Williams snapped a picture with his brothers and mother and an unidentified adorable baby while enjoying a holiday vacation:
