And if you squint real hard and tilt your head counter-clockwise toward the sun, you might see it. But given the fact that that's what it takes to see that this isn't your typical lineup of size zero white models, many consider the magazine's so-called diversity issue a fail. Where's the diversity you ask? Well, Liu Wen is Chinese; Ashley Graham is plus-size; Kendall Jenner... has black hair; Gigi Hadid's father is Palestinian-American, in addition to her being the it-girl in fashion right now; Imaan Hammam is Egyptian and Moroccan; Adwoa Aboah is Ghanian and English; and Vittoria Ceretti is Italian. So yes, in the technical sense of the word, the models are diverse, but assimilated diversity is not a step forward. Fair skin and straight hair still reign by and large, and thin bodies are still the preference, at least when it comes to selling covers, as the silhouette of Graham on the front of the mag is quite different from how her body is shown inside -- a point the glossie has been called out for. And another sore spot for some is the fact that the first time an Asian model was included on the cover of Vogue, she had to share the space with six other women. According to Yahoo, Graham did speak out against allegations she was asked to cover her body for the cover, writing on Instagram: “I chose to pose like that. No one told me to do anything.” Vogue, as expected, has said nothing. So tell us, do you see diversity when you look at this cover?
