The biggest night in music, better known as the Grammys, have come and gone just like that. But this year’s 59th awards show was one for the books, crowning Chance The Rapper as a prestigious three-time winner and offering up some great tributes for musical legends.

While The Time and Bruno Mars rocked out like only the Purple One could and had everyone singing their praises, the George Michael tribute also garnered buzz, too. It was Adele’s selflessness and dedication to upholding not only her reputation but the legacy of the late, great artist, swearing when the performance seemed to go wrong and restarting.

But her bravery to give it a second shot isn’t the actual tea here. Apparently, the tribute wasn’t originally only handed over to Adele. To begin, Michael’s family didn’t even want a tribute. “They came back and were very specific that it be me,” she told Billboard.

After her performance, it was revealed that Michael’s longtime manager  Michael Lippman, had a vision of his own for the tribute: Beyonce, Rihanna and James Cordon alongside Adele for a mega tribute. According to Billboard, “he would tap Grammy host James Corden, whose “Carpool Karaoke” was launched with George Michael as a guest in the passenger seat, Adele, Beyonce and Rihanna. Each singer would tribute George Michael with a song from a different tempo and era. “Freedom” and “One More Try” were of the songs Lippman wanted to include in his star studded George Michael mash-up. The idea began to come into fruition but according to the show’s executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, it quickly became evident “how passionate Adele was and that she had a vision for what she wanted to do with it.””

While we love Adele, we definitely would have loved to see this tribute come to fruition.
