This season’s New York Fashion Week was certainly one for the books with themes of politics and protest reigning supreme. Although the week of fashion has come and gone, W Magazine is continuing the discussion of what our country has experienced with Trump in office thus far.
In a new video, 81 of the fashion industry’s biggest and brightest stars come together, declaring, “I am an immigrant” in direct opposition to Trump’s recent executive order banning refugees and travel from seven Muslim-majority nations. There’s designer Diane von Furstenburg, model Jourdan Dunn and fashion veteran Bethann Hardison, among many others. The clip concludes with a lingering shot on von Furstenberg, who says “I am immigrant. And America was very good to me.”
While we certainly enjoyed the fact that the fashion industry stood together in solidarity for this issue, we can’t help but to wonder why it seems so hard for individuals of that realm to discuss inclusiveness when it comes to race and body type.
