I’ve been dating a guy for a month and, so far, things have been great. I’m really happy with the pace we’re moving at; we text or talk every day, have gone on a date once each week, and he’s made references to things we could do in the future that hint he could see us being in a relationship one day. But recently he made a proposal that kind of freaked me out regarding our romantic timeline.
My potential beau’s best friend just told him he and his long-time girlfriend decided to pseudo-elope. A month from now, they’re heading to Turks & Caicos to tie the knot with just his parents, her parents, her best friend and her husband and my guy. Him, not wanting to be a ninth wheel, asked me if I’d join him on the weekend getaway.
Initially, I was super flattered by the offer. In the early stages of dating, you don’t even know if you’ll see a guy the next day, much less a month from now, so the invitation confirmed my feeling he sees a future for us. But at the same time, I’m not sure we’re ready to take a trip together — especially with a bunch of married couples.
I’m not following a 90-day rule per say, but I’m definitely trying to keep my cookies in the jar as long as possible. And though my guy has offered to split the cost of an additional room at the resort if I’m not comfortable sharing one, let’s be serious. After our first walk on the beach at sunset, it’s gonna go down. And then there’s all the questions I’m sure will come from the couples about the relationship we haven’t even really established yet and the unsolicited advice and even bromance stories I might not really be ready to hear bout the person I’m still getting to know myself that makes me want to decline this generous invitation.
On the other hand, it’s an opportunity for a much-needed vacation. I like this guy, and I think our relationship is headed somewhere — I’m just not sure it’s Turks & Caicos 30 days from now. What should I do?
