When I go on vacation I usually like to keep my skincare and makeup routine light. That typically means I’m packing some sort of face oil to give my skin a nice glow before I hit the beach. And because all I have to do is think about the sun to tan, that oil is usually the only thing I can put on my face at night along with a few swipes of mascara and a brow once my foundation no longer matches my bronzed skin. I’ll be honest, I had a very old Black mama moment when I first purchased the elixir because I knew it was a luxury buy and I didn’t want to “use up my good stuff too soon.” Africa immediately corrected my old school thinking and reminded me women should be able to have nice things every day, which is exactly the experience you get using the facial elixir.
Inspired by the influencer’s travels to Brazil, the elixir contains Maracuja Oil, which is cold-pressed from the maracuja fruit and is naturally rich in vitamin C and fatty acids, as well as Cupuacu Butter, another indigenous ingredient. Both help replenish, hydrate, seal in moisture, and illuminate the skin’s natural glow and you only need a few drops for the oil to work it’s magic, i.e. a little goes a long way which means one bottle will last you a while.
What I love most about the elixir is its texture; it moisturizes and seals without feeling heavy or greasy on my face. It’s also softly aromatic and, truthfully, just feels luxurious, like you’re in a spa applying it as opposed to your bathroom. It also has other multitasking properties outside of its ability to hydrate and even calm excess sebum production on oily skin. The elixir can be used to gently remove makeup at the end of the night and you can mix the oil with a few drops of foundation for a natural, light dewy glow, which you’ll know I’ll be doing on my next trip.
