Towanda Braxton and Andre Carter seem to be having what appears to be an extremely pleasant divorce.
Perhaps that was because we could all see that the writing on the wall was already there. Everyone under the sun knew that these two wouldn’t likely stay married. And so instead of fighting each other in the process, they simply spent their time figuring out how they were going to separate their lives from one another and continue to co-parent their children.
They have two children together, 11-year-old Braxton and 10-year-old Brooke.
Our sister site Bossip, discovered that Towanda and Andre agreed to leave the marriage with only what they brought into it. Not only that, though Towanda makes three times more than Carter, after thirteen years, both sides agreed not to pay alimony or child support.
Though the couple married in 2004, Towanda said that they have been living separately for the past three years. On the divorce papers, she cited the reason for the disillusion of their marriage as irreconcilable differences.
The process has been so civil that Carter not only represented himself in the divorce, he agreed to joint custody of their children and that Towanda would have the final say when it came to decisions of religion, education, and extracurricular activities if they can’t agree.
While Carter did have problems with the way producers portrayed him on the show. He said they never offered an explanation as to why he never seemed to have a job.
But it would seem that he was able to separate the actions of the producers from his now ex-wife.
Andre and Towanda also promised not to trash talk one another in front of their children, be good role models and not use their children as middlemen.
The document, signed by both Carter and Braxton said, “Each shall refrain from conduct which does or may undermine a positive relationship between each child and the other parent.
Towanda can go back to her maiden name if she wants and each party will get to keep their own checking accounts, 401K, cars and savings accounts.
If you ask me, this is how divorce should be done. Just beautiful.
Kudos to Andre and Towanda.
