If you love Niecy Nash, flashy nails, dramedies and women-centered shows that showcase us in all of our bada–ery, then the new TNT series Claws is right up your alley. Even if you don’t love all of those things, the trailer alone for the show is sure to catch your attention.
Described as a “midnight-dark” comedy, the show is about a group of manicurists, led by Niecy Nash’s character Desna, looking to take their talents to the next level while working in Central Florida — and dealing with, as well as teaming up with, unsavory characters. Karrueche Tran is also a cast member on the series (take that Chris Brown!). She stars as Virginia, a less than inspired nail tech. Other (possible) faves getting screen time include Harold Perrineau, Judy Reyes of Scrubs fame, and Dean Norris from Breaking Bad. There is a lot of color (which should be expected for anything set in Florida), and even more drama. Not to mention money laundering, some murder — all of the things sure to make the show engrossing.
The series is executive produced by Rashida Jones and is set to make its debut on TNT on June 11. According to Deadline, it’s been given the green light for 10 episodes.
Those at TNT are excited about their newest offering, including Sarah Aubrey, the EVP of original programming for the network.
“This is a show with great storytelling featuring empowered female characters and brought to life by a diverse group of incredibly talented individuals both in front of and behind the camera.”
