It’s safe to say that everyone and their mama has seen the cult classic Friday. To date, it’s been 22 years since Ice Cube debuted the narrative that follows Smokey and Craig after they smoke a dope dealer’s weed and try to figure a way to get the $200 they owe to the dealer that same night. And it’s been 15 years since the third installment of the comedic film, Friday After Next, premiered in theaters.
For years, there’s been speculation that Cube’s Cubevision productions are hitting us with another dose of nostalgia with another reboot reportedly titled Last Friday.
With individuals still hopeful, one of Friday’s most memorable actors, John Witherspoon, who played Cube’s father Willie Jones, gave fans some details about the film’s whereabouts, TMZ reports.
“Cube said they’re going to do another Friday,” the 75-year-old confirmed. “He said he wanted to meet with me this week, but he couldn’t make it, but we’re going to meet next week and get things together.”
Back in 2015, actress Angela Means, who played Felicia, shared her thoughts on a possible Friday follow-up, offering, “Cube wants to keep going, but people have moved on and the same people aren’t available at the same rate and don’t have the same time or the same inclination.” “That’s where it is. It’s going to be timely and when it happens, it’ll happen,” she continued. “It’s not like people are opposed to it, but it’s just the nature of the business, just timing. It’s got to be right.”
Well, sounds like the business and timing is right now.
