Jamaican Black Castor Oil gets all the shine in the natural hair care industry, but Yve-Car Momperousse knows the wonders of Haitian Castor Oil, otherwise known as Lwil Maskriti. It’s the one product that’s gotten her through many a “haircatastrophe,” and not wanting to keep other women from the magic of this oil, Yve-Car created the brand Kreyol Essence. And now it can be found in more than 95 Whole Foods stores in the United States.
Kreyol Essence is “the first company to launch Haitian beauty products at Whole Foods Market and the first Haitian company to bring Haiti’s beauty treasure to the mainstream U.S. & Canadian market,” according to a news release. And the oil doesn’t just work wonders for hair, it’s also great for the skin and has medicinal purposes. As such, the Kreyol Essence line includes a shampoo, conditioner, hair milk, pomade, whipped body creme, and hair and body butter all infused with Haitian Castor Oil to promote hair growth and, strengthen, repair, and moisturize damaged hair.
There are also a variety of oils offered, all of which have Haitian Castor Oil as the base, but that also include other ingredients like moringa and coconut oil which can be used for moisture on the hair, face, or body; neem oil for softening, hydration, and elimination of dandruff; and vetiver which clarifies the scalp and can also clear scars.
You’ll also find special aromatic Haitian Castor Oils in this line such as Arôme Chokola, Arôme Lavend, Arôme Citron, and Arôme Mant, which contain essential oils that create a luxurious experience.
Sustainably harvested from farms in Haiti, a large part of the mission of Kreyol Essence is to create jobs on the island, which it plans to do by nature of its harvestation which, through its success, will help stimulate Haiti’s economy as well as its deforestation and soil erosion challenges.
